Stress Less, Live More: Understanding the Effects of Stress on Your Mind and Body

Let me tell you about stress. It affects the organs we need to keep functioning optimally and is the underlying cause of many health problems. Stress keeps us up at night as we worry about the long list of things to do, leaving us with little time and energy to get it all done. There is good stress, which makes us feel good when we are winning and achieving, but bad stress can leave us feeling down and out, with fluctuating weight gain or loss due to our overworked adrenal gland.

So, what can we do to alleviate stress? We can pray, meditate, dance, and breathe in love to our hearts while breathing out the things that steal our joy, smile, and good vibes. We should also consider how our environments influence our mood, attitude, and outlook. Taking time to socialize with people who bring us peace and joy, and spending time in nature can also help alleviate stress.

We should pay attention to how our bodies feel and respond to the food and hydration we receive. Whole foods such as fruits and vegetables, especially those we grow ourselves, are the best sources of nutrients to nourish our bodies and help protect them from the impacts of stress. Some herbs that can help manage stress include Ashwagandha, which has been shown to have positive effects on adrenal function, and Holy basil, which helps with metabolic health and regulating blood glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, and insomnia.

Managing stress is crucial, and to do so we need to take inventory of the stressors contributing to our current state of wellness. I have included a wellness wheel. View the wheel and consider each dimension to determine what needs adjusting to help you feel whole, alive, and ready to live and love your life.
